# Christianity Is A Near Eastern Religion As it used to be before Constantine the Great. It was a religion for Hellenistic Jews. And it was heavily influenced by the Hellenistic Egyption culture. You can see it from that the Holy Family flee to Egypt to escape from Herod. Also the culture of Mt. Athos came from Mt. Sinai in Egypt. Monastic culture started in Egypt along with the Desert Fathers. Alexandria in Egypt was the center of early Christianity and the Hellenistic world in general. It was influenced by Middle Eastern culture too. You can see it from the visit of the Three Magi to celebrate the birth of Christ. Armenia and Ethiopia converted to Christianity even before the Roman empire. Especially Ethiopia has never left Christianity since then. Regarding Christianity as a fundamentally Western tradition is a serious error.
